Ireland’s Craig Young Ruled Out of T20 WC 2022; CI Announced Replacement Player

Ireland Pacer Craig Young has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after the 32-year-old had a recurrence of a chronic issue at the preparatory camp in Sydney.

Cricket Ireland has named fast bowler Graham Hume as the replacement player for Craig Young. The South African cricketer Graham Hume who plays for the Ireland cricket team made his international debut for Ireland in July 2022 against New Zealand. While Graham Hume made his T20I debut on 12 August 2022, against Afghanistan.

“Unfortunately, whilst out in Sydney for our T20 World Cup prep camp, Craig experienced a recurrence of a chronic issue which we have been managing for quite some time. Whilst we thought we were on top of the issue, it sadly flared up once we arrived in Sydney and began training.

Craig will now return home for an assessment with our medical specialists to plan out his rehab,” Mark Rausa, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services at Cricket Ireland, said in an official statement released by CI.

Graham Hume who played one ODI and T20I match still waits to bag his first international wicket. But he played 98 first-class games and bagged 311 wickets at an average of 17.91.

Notably, Graham Hume have 14 five wickets in innings with the best bowling figure of 7 wickets for 23 runs.

Ireland who has placed in group B will play their first match of the tournament against Zimbabwe on October 17 in Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
