With Virat Kohli set to return to the Indian set-up for the three-match ODI series, he is on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar‘s 19 year old ODI record.
The Indian batting machine is only 94 runs short of becoming the fastest batter to reach a milestone of 14000 runs in ODIs. Back in February 2006, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar records the milestone in his 350th ODI innings during the match against Pakistan in Peshawar where he scored 100.
Currently, Kohli has 13906 runs to his name from 283 ODI innings at an average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 93.54 with 50 centuries and 72 half-centuries.
Last year in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored only 58 runs from three games at an average of 19.33 with scores of 24,14 and 20.

During the ODI World Cup 2023, Kohli had surpassed Tendulkar as the batter with most hundreds in the format. Tendulkar finished his career with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs.
Fastest to 14000 runs in ODIs
- Sachin Tendulkar – 350 innings (against Pakistan in Peshawar, February 2006)
- Kumar Sangakkara – 378 innings (against Australia in Sydney, March 2015)
Virat Kohli’s hasn’t been best in his form in the last calendar year and is desperated to find back his rhythm. He scored a century in the second innings of the Perth Test against Australia, but struggled for runs in the other matches.
He also failed during his Ranji Trophy return after 12 years where being dismissed by Himanshu Sangwan.
The upcoming ODI series will serve as a preparation for both the sides for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
The three match ODI series in England tour of India 2025 is set to commence on February 06 at VCA Stadium.
Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and other arrived in Nagpur last week ahead of Thursday’s first ODI against England.
The second and third match will be played on Febrauary 9 and 12 at Barabati Stadium and Narendra Modi Stadium respectively.
