Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra on Tuesday reckoned that if the Indian cricket team management requires MS Dhoni, he will return to the squad with or without the 13th season of the Indian Premier League. Indian head coach previously states that MS Dhoni would get his slot back only if he perform well in the IPL 2020.

BCCI’s new Idea of hosting IPL

But due to the coronavirus outbreak, BCCI decides to postpone the tournament to the mid of April. And also hints that IPL could cancelled if it cross it’s deadline(April 20). After this announcement IPL owners had a conference call on March 16 and comes out with a decision focusing the safety of the peoples. But the BCCI is in no mood to give up on its hopes of conducting the IPL and is reportedly planning to stage the tournament in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days.

The report further stated that BCCI is planning to host the IPL in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days. The Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the year 2020 has little of consequence between the months of July and September barring the Asia Cup T20 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) scheduled in September and England hosting Pakistan at home before playing Ireland in the white-ball format.

Aakash Chopra’s view on Dhoni

“For a player like Dhoni, IPL was never going to be a yardstick,” Chopra said in a YouTube video. “If he had scored runs in the IPL, experts would have been like ‘select Dhoni’, ‘do this and do that’. MS Dhoni knows what he is doing, whether he wants to come back or not.”

“IPL, I don’t think was a critical factor. If he wants to come back, he will make himself available, if the selectors decide to pick him, he will be picked automatically because you won’t get experience in supermarkets. Dhoni is a hugely experienced player. If India needs MS Dhoni, then with or without IPL, he will come back.”

Sunil joshi regards Dhoni

While he has remained tight-lipped about his future in international cricket, the team management and the selectors have made it clear that a good IPL performance can only bring him back to the senior team.

“He will be back in the reckoning only if he has a good IPL. And why only him? There are so many senior and young players who will play in the IPL. If they do well, they ought to be considered too. So, you could see some surprise inclusions,” a senior BCCI source had told the Press Trust of India after Sunil Joshi took over from MSK Prasad as the chairman of selectors.
