The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the Men’s Player of the Month Nominees for July 2025, which include Shubman Gill after his impressive campaign in England.
Alongside Shubman Gill, South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder, and England’s Ben Stokes have earned nominations.
Shubman Gill (India)
Shubman Gill had a sensational campaign, scoring 754 runs in the series against England with four centuries, including a maiden double century at 75.40, breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s record (732) for the highest tally for an Indian captain in a five-match test series.
He is also second best behind Sir Donald Bradman (810 runs) in the list of captains.
His consistency at No.4, carrying on the banton from Virat Kohli, provided stability and flair in equal measure and combined with his extraordinary captaincy in his debut series.
Wiaan Mulder (South Africa)
The South African cricketer Wiaan Mulder has made a record breaking all-rounder performances in two match test series against Zimbabwe.
He went on to score 531 runs across two matches with an average of 265.50, including a 147 runs in the second innings of the first test.
His stand out impression came during the second test where he amassed unbeaten 367 runs in his maiden outing as South Africa’s test captain.
He also went on to claim seven wickets at 15.28, including a four wicket haul in the first test. His ability to impact the game in both discipline made him the standout player of the series.
Ben Stokes (England)
The England test skipper Ben Stokes showcased his all-rounder abilities throughout three tests in July of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
He went on to score 251 runs at an average of 50.20 and also took 12 wickets at 26.33, putting high pressure situations with both bat and ball. He was named player of the Match in back to back tests at Lord’s and Manchester.
His 141 run knock at Old Trafford set the stage for England as the side piled 669 runs in their first innings. His leadership proved crucial in maintaining England’s intensity and belief in closely contested series.
Player of the Month voting process
The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.
The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.
The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 percent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.
