The 30 year old Shreyas Iyer has reckoned that batting at 4th position in the line-up in the ODI format can flourish his exploits. Batting at no.4, he India’s highest run getter in recently concluded Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai.
The Mumbai batter’s impressive performance comes from the ODI World Cup 2023 when he scored 530 runs from 11 matches.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the Punjab Kings captain said that he gets a sense of belonging when he bats at No. 4. Shreyas Iyer said that he will repeat the same performances to provide balance in the middle order for the Indian team.
“I feel I belong to the No.4 position. Whether it was in the 2023 World Cup or now in the Champions Trophy, I enjoyed the most coming as No.4. It gives me a sense of belonging and and that’s where I am able to flourish.”
“I will tirelessly repeat it to provide that balance in the middle order, whenever I represent India,” said Shreyas.

Over the years, Shreyas Iyer‘s ability to play the short ball was often questioned by critics. However, he silenced critics with an impressive performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer felt that a perception was created that he was weak against short balls. The Mumbai batter said that he always knew about his strengths and abilities and continued to back himself.
“Maybe, the perception was created or maybe I was typecast. But I always knew my strengths, my abilities and (there was also) the belief (that) I had in myself,” said Shreyas.
While he has excelled in ODIs, Shreyas Iyer has good records in tests. However he remained silent on a return to the red-ball cricket and said he doesn’t want to overthink and complicate his current process.
“I prefer not to over-think and complicate my current process. For now, I am living in the moment to fulfil my roles and responsibilities with Punjab Kings,” said Shreyas.
Shreyas Iyer will be leading Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 campaign and will play their first match against Gujarat Titans on March 25 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
