The Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been handed a three-month ban for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code after testing positive for a prohibited substance during the men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.
The International Council confirmed that Nawaz has tested positive for Carboxy-THC, classified as a substance of Abuse under Anti-doping code, following Pakistan’s 2026 T20 World Cup fixture against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 07.
He scored 15 runs and took seven wicket during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.
“Pakistan spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has accepted three months of ineligibility (which will be reduced to one month on completion of a substance abuse treatment programme) for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code,” said an ICC statement.
“Subject to Nawaz completing a substance abuse rehabilitation programme to the ICC’s satisfaction, Nawaz will not be required to serve the remainder of the three months of ineligibility,” the ICC statement mentioned.
The 32-year old admitted the violation and released the statement that the substance had been consumed out of competition and was unrelated to enhancing sporting performance.
“Nawaz admitted to the offence and demonstrated that the substance had been used out-of-competition, in a manner unrelated to sport performance,” the sport governing body stated.

His three-month suspension started on May 01 which he voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension, and was reduced from three to one month after he committed to completing an ICC-approved substance abuse treatment programme.
Having already spent two and a half months under provisional suspension, Nawaz’s suspension has now been lifted. However, he will not be required to serve any further period of ineligibility.
Under the ICC Anti-Doping code, Nawaz’s individual records from Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands on February 07, along with those from any subsequent matches until the commencement of his provisional suspension on May 01, have been disqualified.
