The players, Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair, are in contention for a place in India’s test squad for the upcoming England tour, which begins in June.
With India set to tour England for a five-match test series, all eyes are on the test squad announcement with the likes of retirement of senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The captaincy role is left vacant with the retirement of the senior batters, with Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah are in contention for the leadership role. The announcement is expected on Saturday when the national selection committee will meet in Mumbai.
The squad will comprise virtually the same names that toured Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November-January.
Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair is likely to be added in the squad for their impressive domestic season. Nair had been profilic scorer in the domestic circuit with 863 runs in nine Ranji Trophy games with four centuries and 779 runs in eight Vijay Hazare Trophy innings with five centuries could be picked in the squad.
The Vidarbha batter has already been included in the India A squad that will leave England in couple of days.
Meanwhile Sai Sudharsan had an impressive season in the IPL 2025, with 638 runs is also expected to earn a place. With already named in the India A squad for the second match against England Lions, he is widely tipped to be added to the senior squad as well.
The left-handed batter from Tamil Nadu has been praised for his technique and temperament, by Jos Buttler who commended Sudharsan for his ability and earnest preparation and work ethic.
Sudharsan has been successful while opening with Shubman Gill in the ongoing IPL, but however unlikely to open in England.
It is understood that KL Rahul has been indicated by head coach Gautam Gambhir that he will be required to bat upfront.
If the plan gets implemented, Rahul is expected to open along with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top with Karun Nair or Sudharsan likely to bat at No. 3 and Shubman Gill at No. 4.
Meanwhile, there is some discussions over the selectors should look at Cheteshwar Pujara (37) for a place in view of the absence of seniors like Rohit Sharma and Kohli.
