The 34-year-old Mohammed Shami is likely to miss the upcoming five-match test series against England, which begins in June.
It is understood that the pacer is not fully fit and cannot after his ankle surgery he underwent last year. It is alleged that he is recovered to bowl in long formats.
Mohammed Shami has been playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 season, though his form is not as impressive as it was. As per the report, the BCCI medical team has informed the selection committee that he isn’t ready to play in red-ball cricket.
“Shami is bowling four overs in IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the board and selectors don’t know whether he can bowl more than 10 overs in a day. Test matches in England may demand longer spells from the pacers, and we can’t take chances,” said a report.
With Shami is likely to be unfit for selection, the report claims that the left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is likely to earn his maiden test call-up for the series.

Meanwhile Anshul Kamboj who has 74 wickets from 22 first class games, is also one of the candidates to replace Shami in the team. It is notable that Kamboj has already been picked for the India A squad for England tour.
The report further claims that BCCI selection committee is expected to meet in a few days and announce the squad for the England tour.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill remains as top contender to replace Rohit Sharma as India’s full time test skipper ahead of the five match test series against against England.
With India A squad has been announced for the England A Lions, all eyes are on the India squad announcement for the upcoming tour.
The five match test series is set to begin on June and will be played until first half of August. The first test match will be played between June 20 and 24 at Headingley.
