Rishabh Pant has become the most successful Asian Wk-batter in SENA countries during the first test against England, marking a milestone and helped India to dominate on day 01 of the Headingley Test.
The 26 year old went past MS Dhoni during his unbeaten 65 runs on Day 01 of the first test of India’s tour of England 2025, which marks the opening fixture of 2025-27 World Test Championship title.
Pant went on to cross 3,000 runs in Test cricket during the knock, becoming the second wk-batter after Dhoni to achieve the feat. He reached the landmark in 76th innings, the second fastest among wk-batters in Test history behind Adam Gilchrist, who got there in 63 innings.
Rishabh Pant has 1746 runs in SENA countries from 27 matches at an average of 38.80 including four centuries and six fifties. He moved Dhoni’s tally of 1731 runs in 32 matches, becoming the highest scoring Asian wk-batter in these conditions.

Rishabh Pant displayed maturity and control in Leeds. His 102-balls 65 stitching 138-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill as India scored 359/3 by the end of day 01.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone with solid century which included 16 fours and 1 six. Gill followed with a composed, unbeaten 127 in his first outing as Test captain.
KL Rahul made a solid 48 runs and got dismissed before the lunch on day 01 and Sai Sudharsan went back to dugout for duck. Despite the pitch traditionally assists seamers early, England’s decision to bowl first backfired.
Stokes removed Sai Sudharsan for a duck on the stroke of lunch, but Jaiswal and Shubman Gill steadied the innings post-lunch, with the left-hander bringing up his fifth Test hundred and the skipper stamping his authority with a classy ton of his own.
