The Indian batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill posted centuries each shows Men in Blues dominance on the day 01 of the first test in the India tour of England 2025.
Despite losing the wickets of KL Rahul and Sudharsan, both went on to make solid knocks helping the side to cross 300-run mark at Leeds.
The ongoing test series marks the new era for both sides in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. India hasn’t won a series in England since 2007. Without the stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, there were concerns on Shubman Gill-led young team, but they were able to dominate at England soil.
Batting first, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the innings while Chris Woakes opned the bowling attack. Making a solid start, the opener duo posted 91 runs for the first wicket.
They went on to lose the wicket of Sai Sudharsan before the end of first session. However, Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal went on to play stellar knocks where the latter scored 101 runs before got dismissed by Stokes.
Rishabh Pant whose performance under radar ahead of the tests, joined Indian captain to further haunt England bowlers on day 01. Gill went on to post his century on in the third session of day 01.

Earlier during the toss, Ben Stokes said, “We’ll bowl. Headingley is a very good cricket wicket, we’ve had some really good games here. Want to try and use the early conditions.”
“Been a long time coming, bit strange that this is just the second series but we’re ready. It’s been mixed, some lads have played county cricket, we’ve had three days of really good cricket. Usual suspects in the top seven, Woakes, Brydon, Bashir, Tongue and myself make up the bowling,” said Ben Stokes.
Meanwhile Shubman Gill said, “Would’ve bowled first as well, might be a bit tough in the first session but it should be good to bat on later. Sun is out, should be a good batting deck for us. Preperation has been amazing, we played a practice game in Beckenham, lads are feeling great. Sai makes his debut, Karun comes in. Sai will bat at three,” concluded Gill.
