The opening batter, Prithvi Shaw, has decided to leave Mumbai Cricket ahead of the upcoming domestic season. He wants to represent another state as a professional.
He has sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the same.
“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association,” Shaw wrote in the letter.
“It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here.”
“At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer,” added Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw was captain of the India U19 team that won the 2018 U-19 World Cup. Having considered as much from him, his career has witnessed a sharp fall.
In fact, which his U-19 teammates Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh have gone on to become mainstays for the senior India team, Shaw has been fading in the domestic circuit. He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the previous season.
He also went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was not even picked as an injury replacement. On this occasion, he has decided to make a big move in order to revive his career.

“In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season.”
Prithvi Shaw has played five tests and six ODIs for India, but was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side last year on grounds of poor fitness and lack of discipline.
Shaw made his last appearance for Mumbai in the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy against Madhya Pradesh on December 14, 2024 which his side won by five wickets.
“He needs to get his work ethics right, and if he does that, the sky is the limit for him,” said Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer.
“We can’t babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past; it’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus, he has to sit back, put a thinking cap on, and then figure out himself. He will get the answer by himself.”
There is speculation that Shaw coud be headed to Maharashtra, but Maharastra Cricket Association (MCA) Honorary secretary Advocate Kamlesh Pisal, denied it. “This is all speculation in regards to that player from Mumbai (Shaw), because there is no official information which I can endorse. But when things are in place, we will issue a statement in the coming days,” he said to media.
