The wk-batter Prithvi Shaw, who narrowly missed out on a double century against Mumbai, had an on-field altercation during the three-day practice match at the MCA stadium in Pune ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season.
He went on to score 181 runs off 140 deliveries and shared a 305-run partnership with Arshin Kulkarni. However, he sparked a debate with ex-Mumbai teammate Musheer Khan forcing the on-field umpire to intervene.
She narrowly missed out an well deserving double hundred against Mumbai, as he was dismissed for 181 runs after his attempted slog sweep against a fuller delivery from Musheer. At that time, Maharashtra’s score was 430 runs for three wickets.
According to reports, Musheer alleged mocked him by saying ‘Thank You.’ The wk-batter got fumed after the bowler gave him a send off. Infuriated Prithvi swung his bat in an attempt to hit him. However, Musheer had moved ahead, so the bat did not hit him.

The rest of Mumbai’s players rushed to support Musheer as the umpire pulled Prithvi Shaw away. On his way back to dugout, Shaw exchanged words with Mumbai’s Siddesh Lad before walking off.
“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all ok now and there is no issue,” said Ankit Bhawne, the captain of Maharashtra side.
Prithvi Shaw made a switch to Maharashtra after receiving a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai earlier this year. He made his first appearance for Maharashtra in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament where he scored 111, 1 and 66 respectively.
Prithvi Shaw Controversies
Prithvi Shaw has a lots of controversial incidents during his cricketing career. A few years ago, he had a dispute with a YouTuber. A video of this dispute also surfaced, in which Shaw was seen fighting on the street. A police complaint was filed against him regarding this matter.
Prithvi Shaw has been out of Team India for a long time and would like to make a comeback to the Indian team by performing well in domestic cricket. Notably, he went unsold in the mega auction held before IPL 2025.
In 2019, Prithvi Shaw was handed an eight-month suspension by the BCCI in 2019 after failing a doping test during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The banned substance detected was terbutaline, which is prohibited by WADA.
During his stint with Delhi Capitals, coach Ricky Ponting criticised Shaw for refusing to practive during a slump. Ponting revealed shaw told him, “I’m not batting today,” which reflected a poor attitude.
In 2024, there is concern over Prithvi Shaw’s fitness where his fat body percentage had reached 35% leading to his exclusion from Mumbai’s Ranji and Vijay Hazare squads.
