Despite losing the wicket of Hayley Matthews for a duck, Mumbai Indians women aimed off for a fiery start as they scored 41 by the end of powerplay during the second match of the WPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals at Kotambi Stadium.
Mumbai Indians who was set to bat first, started with Yastika Bhatia and West Indies opener Hayley aiming for a solid start. However, Shikha Pandey bagged her first wicket in the third edition of the WPL for a duck giving a positive start for her side.
However, Alice Capsey who bowled the second over, was expensive and conceded 19 runs in the over. After two well-bowled overs, Shikha Pandey came to bowl the fifth over of the innings and picked the wicket of Yashtika Bhatia.
Bhatia who scored 11 runs off 9 deliveries was sent dismissed in the second ball of the 5th over. Harmanpreet Kaur joined Nat Sciver-Brunt who steadily built the score to help the side from early dismissals.

Earlier in the toss, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “Definitely bowling, but we saw last night the ball was coming on to the bat nicely and hopefully we will bat well.”
“Last season we wanted to play fearless cricket and this season also we would look to do that. Doing the right things is what we want to do.”
“We did not want to try anything new, last season we got a bit of success and in the first season we did everything right.”
“So we don’t plan to try anything new this season even though we have a debutant tonight and she brings a lot of balance to the side,” concluded Kaur.
