KKR vs MI 2024 Highlights; Kolkata becomes first team to Qualify for Playoffs

KKR vs MI 2024 Highlights: Kolkata Knight Riders won in the IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians on May 12 at Eden Gardens.

Kolkata won the match by 18 runs and registered their 9th campaign victory. With this victory, Kolkata has become the first team to qualify for the Playoff in the ongoing season.

Varun Chakravarthy was named as the Player of the match for his impressive spell in the match. While speaking in the post-match conference, “The plan was to make him (Rohit) hit across the line, obviously there was help from the wicket and I was able to use it to my advantage.”

“Tactically we (talking about Narine) are similar, but technically we are slightly different. The wickets were too flat initially, my bowling has been the same from the first match and it is just that the results are showing up now.”

After rain delayed the toss, the match was set to play 16 overs. Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl where Philip Salt and Sunil Narine opened the innings.

Sunil Narine scored 6 runs before being dismissed by Nuwan Thushara while Sunil Narine was sent out on a golden duck by Bumrah in the first ball of the second over. The KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was dismissed by Anshul Kamboj for 7 runs in 10 deliveries.

Venkatesh Iyer has scored 42 runs on 21 deliveries helping the side to recover from early dismissals. Venkatesh advances and gets too close to the pitch of the ball and strikes hard straight to long-off where Suryakumar Yadav caught the ball in the first ball of the 9th over.

Nitish Rana and Andre Russell scored 33 and 24 runs and helped the side score 125 runs by the end of the 13th over. By the end of the 16 overs, Kolkata Knight Riders lost seven wickets scoring 157 runs.

With a target of 158 runs, Mumbai Indians started their innings where Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma opened the innings. Ishan Kishan smashed 40 runs in 22 deliveries with a strike rate of 181.82 before being dismissed by Sunil Narine.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma scored 19 runs before being dismissed by Chakravarthy. With Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma’s 11 and 32 runs, Mumbai Indians scored 91 for four wickets in the 12th over.

Hardik Pandya, Tim David, and Nehal Wadhera were sent out on single-digit scores. With Naman Dhir’s 17 runs, Mumbai Indians lost eight wickets and scored 139 in 16 overs.
