    ICC Announces June 2023 Men’s Player of the Month Nominees

    ICC has announced the June 2023 Men’s Player of the Month Nominees list which features performers from ongoing Cricket World Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

    June 2023 Men’s Player of the Month Nominees

    The candidates selected as the nominees of June 2023 Men’s Player of the Month are Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka), Travis Head (Australia), and Sean Williams (Zimbabwe). This list is taken into count with the current ODI world cup qualifiers match.

    Travis Head

    The Australian middle-order batsman Travis Head has been performing well in Test Cricket matches since 2021, averaging almost 55 in 20 games.

    The 29-year-old had good innings over the WTC finals at Kennington Oval. Coming at 76/3, the Southpaw counter-attacked and dismissed the Indian bowling taking the score of 163 off 174 deliveries.

    It helped Australia for a marvellous first-innings total of 469, which was too much for India as Australia got their first WTC title. After his WTC finals, He had his half-century in the first Ashes 2023, at Edgbaston to help Australia take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

    Sean Williams

    Sean Williams, the left-hander has scored three centuries against Nepal, the USA, and Oman to help Zimbabwe on five straight wins. He has averaged an incredible 100 taking three wickets in the qualifiers.

    Williams has a total score of 700 runs, which includes three centuries and two half-centuries thus far in seven games of the World Cup Qualifiers.

    Wanindu Hasaranga

    Wanindu Hasaranga has been the best bowler in the tournament. The 25-year-old had taken 20 wickets with an average of 12.45, which makes him the best wicket-taker of the tournament.

    He has taken five wickets in three consecutive matches, after former Pakistan Pacer Waqar who is the one and only to achieve this record until now. The record was displayed against the UAE ( six for 24 runs), Oman (five for 13 runs), and Ireland (five for 79).

    Hasaranga’s thrilling bowling has led Sri Lanka to run an unbeaten record until now in the World Cup Qualifiers tournament, which helped them to qualify for awaiting World Cup in India.

    Player of the Month voting process

    The Nominees from either category are shortlisted based on their performance by the last day of the month. The Candidates are shortlisted and voted by the ICC Voting Academy and fans around the World.

    The ICC Voting Academy consists of well-known journalists, former players, and ICC Hall of Fame members. They submit their votes by email which becomes 90% of the voting members.

    The fans who are registered with ICC can also vote via the ICC website through icc-cricket.com/awards, which gives the remaining 10 per cent. Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month.

    June 2023 Women’s Player of the Match

    For the Women’s side, England’s Tammy Beaumont and Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner were the nominees for their performance in the recently happened Ashes Test.

    The third one was West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews to join the nominees list due to her performance in the ODI series against Ireland.

    May 2023 Men’s Player of the Month

    On May 2023, players like Babar Azam (Pakistan), Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh), and Harry Tector (Ireland) have been nominated for the Player of the Month.

    They are taken into account with the ODI series against New Zealand, and the final series of the ICC Super League. Out of those Harry Tector (Ireland) was named Player of the Month.

    Although Ireland lost the series against Bangladesh, his 206 runs presented several advantages for Ireland as the World Cup Qualifiers, most notable a career-best innings of 140 in the second ODI, featuring 10 sixes.
