The England captain Jos Buttler has addressed the side’s defeat in the first ODI match of the India tour and cited the batting collapse as the reason for the loss.

Three Lions are set to play a three-match ODI series as a part of England’s tour of India 2025 where they lost the five-match T20I series 4-1. However, they looked for a comeback in the ODI series ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.

But they suffered a 4-wicket loss in the match which gave the hosts 1-0 lead in the series. Speaking in the post match conference, Buttler said, “Disappointed not to win the game. We got off to a fantastic start in the powerplay but we lost wickets.”

“Another 40-50 runs could have been handy with the way the wicket played towards the end. The guys started really well.”

“The game was in the balance at that point, but credit to Shreyas Iyer to build that partnership. We have to play better for longer,” concluded Buttler.
