The Gujarat Titans fast bowler Ishan Sharma has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 06.
Ishant Sharma has been slapped with a hefty 25 per cent on his match fees and has been given one demerit point.
The Indian Premier League announced the decision via a statement on Monday morning, nearly 12 hours after the conclusion of the game. Ishant did not have a good time against Sunrisers Hyderabad, giving away 53 runs in 4 overs, which was nearly 30 per cent of SRH’s total runs yesterday.
“Ishant Sharma, Bowler, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday,” the IPL release said.

“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further added.
Article 2.2 is part of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for players and Team officials and deals with the “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e., intentionally), recklessly, or negligently (in either case, even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” the rule reads.
Ishant Sharma has been the fifth player have been handed punishments in the IPL 2025 season. Apart from Ishant, Lucknow Spinner Digvesh Rathi, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya, Rajasthan Captain Riyan Parag and Lucknow Captain Rishabh Pant have been fined this season.
While the captains have been fined for slow over rate, Rathi has been fined twice for his notebook celebrations in the 2025 season.
While Ishant had a bad day out, GT was still able to hammer SRH in their 4th match of the tournament. With the win, GT climbed up to the second position in the IPL 2025 points table.
Gujarat Titans will play their next match against Rajasthan Royals on April 09 at Narenda Modi Stadium.
