Charlotte Edwards is set to take over the role of Head Coach for the England Women’s team and will be parting ways with Mumbai Indians guiding them to the WPL title in 2023 and 2025.
The franchise has officially announced her departure with a special post and a statement via their social media handles, also wishing her the best for her new role with England.
Edwards has been an integral part of the MI Women’s team since the kickstart of WPL back in 2023, and in her very first season, she guided the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt to winning the inaugrual title by beating Delhi Capitals.
She was yet again in a key role after guiding MI to become the first team to win two WPL titles by beating the same opponents in DC, in 2025.
Thank you, Coach Lottie, for being an inspiration and guiding us to two championships with a smile 😊💙
Good luck for your new role as England Women’s Head Coach. pic.twitter.com/n3xnzJNI7Q

“Charlotte Edwards has been a leader for whom the entire #OneFamily has enormous admiration, appreciation and respect. The incredible achievements that Charlotte has driven the team towards, winning 2 titles in 3 years, developing and inspiring the girls to play their best cricket and taking the MI legacy forward and bringing joy to the MI Paltan. We wish her all the very best and are grateful for everything she has brought to our team over the past 3 years,” an MI sp spokesperson said.
Across her career as a coach, Edwards had won five women’s Cricket Super League titles with Southern Vipers. The Hundred with the Southern Brave and then the two WPL titles with MI.
She will be replacing England coach, Jon Lewis, she will be hoping to turn the side’s fate. England women’s team suffered a semi-final exit in the 2023 T20 World Cup, followed by group-stage exit in the 2024 edition under Lewis.
This was made by England’s disastrous 16-0 defeat in the Ashes, but Edwards will be hoping to turn the tides with her winning experience across different franchises leagues.
