The BCCI meeting with IPL franchise owners on April 16 has been postponed as franchise owners view a change in the IPL Programme for the next season.
IPL Owners Meeting with BCCI Postponed
BCCI has planned a meeting with IPL franchise owners to discuss increasing player retention for the next season. On this occasion, the owners had another view of the change in the regulations for the mega auction.
Hence the meeting has been put off and a new date has not been informed even as certain franchises have been opposing the increase in the number of retentions.
The meeting was to discuss player retention and Salary Caps for the mega auction for next season where BCCI wanted the opinion of the IPL owners.
However, some franchises have revealed their opposition to the talk about increasing the number of retentions from the existing four and increasing the size of the current cap of INR 90 crores to INR 100 crores.
There is a school of thought that the retention should not be more than one and the franchises should be allowed more Right to Match options, which will be based on the market value and transparency.
The meeting between BCCI and IPL owners and promoters was to be held side by side with the IPL 2024 game between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at Ahmedabad.
But the clash has been rescheduled with the next day’s match due to Rama Navami festivities in Kolkata. The change in the fixtures is proposed due to the security concerns expressed by city police.
BCCI has swapped the games on April 16 and 17. Gujarat Titans who set to host Delhi Capitals on April 16 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the fixture is now likely to be postponed by a day on April 17.
Instead of Gujarat Titans vs Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad, the KKR vs RR game is now likely to be played on April 16 in Kolkata. This change in the schedule will not be a major challenge.
Coming to the tournament, Rajasthan Royals currently tops the IPL 2024 points table with four consecutive victories.
Rajasthan Royals are set to play their next match against Gujarat Titans on April 10 at Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium.
