With the countdown for the IND vs PAK clash in the Asia Cup 2025 has begun, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings has sparked a debate with chess-themed graphic portraying Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha facing an empty Silhouette representing India.
The design comes after the Punjab Kings, who skipped naming Pakistan in their fixture update.
Karachi Kings’ act has triggered online banter and trolls, underlining how the rivalry extends beyond the boundary. Punjab Kings had previously faced a storm, forcing them to switch off comments after their silence on Pakistan was seen as deliberate.
Adding fuel to the incident, a plea in India’s Supreme Court has demanded the cancellation of the India-Pakistan encounter.
Citing the Pahalgam terror attack and operation Sindoor the petitioners said sports ties with Pakista compromise national security and dishonour soldiers’ sacrifices.
“Cricket should symbolize harmony, not diminish dignity,” the petition stated. “But at a time when out soldiers have sacrificed their lives, engaging in Sport with the country sheltering terrorist sends the wrong message.”
The petition has also highlighted potential damage to the morale of the armed forces and questioned where national dignity should be compromised for entertainment. The court, however, denied an urgent listing.
