The wk-batter Phil Salt has made a record-breaking knock as England posted a 146-run victory in the 2nd T20I against South Africa on September 13 at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.

Salt smashed 141 runs during the game, which is the fastest and highest T20 century by an England batter and shared a stunning opening stand with Jos Buttler during the 2nd T20I match of South Africa tour of England 2025.

Phil Salt’s knock included 15 fours and 8 sixes and he overtook Liam Livingstone’s record for England’s fastest century by reaching three figures in 39 deliveries. It was also his fourth T20 hundred for England, making him the only player in the side to go beyond one.

This is the third time in T20I history that men’s team has crossed 300 run mark in T20 internationals. Along with Salt, Buttler added 83 runs from just 30 deliveries, including a half century in only 18 balls.

Chasing the target, South Africa got bundled out for 158 runs suffering one of the biggest defeat in the format.

Phil Salt also went past New Zealand’s Finn Allen in the list of highest individual scores in T20Is.

Allen previously has scored 137 runs against Pakistan in January last year. But Salt’s knock still lies behind Aaron Finch’s all time high score 172 which he smashed against Zimbabwe in 2018.

Coming to the 2nd T20I, England bowlers shared their success as Jofra Archer picked 3/25, while Sam Curran 2 for 11 and Will Jacks twice at the end.

Phil Salt was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the toss, Salt said, “That was really good fun. The personal milestone, but the fact that we got 300 and won by such a big margin, you can’t ask for much more.”

“Sometimes, you know, I’ll pick days where I want to jump-start someone, just because the mood sort of takes me, so it’s a bit of a balancing act, it’s a double-edged sword. Everyone knows it’s a good wicket. Always knew powerplay was going to be important,” he concluded.

With the series levelled 1-1, the decider match will be played on September 14 at Trent Bridge.
