CWC23: ICC Bans Jarvo 69 From Attending World Cup Games

Serial pitch intruder Daniel Jarvis also known as “Jarvo 69” has been banned by ICC from attending any further World Cup games following his intrusion in the India-Australia match at Chepauk on October 8.

‘Jarvo 69’ has a long history of similar security breaches where he has crossed the fencing and the boundary hoardings and stepped onto the playing arena during international cricket matches.

Jarvo 69 executed the same during India’s ODI World Cup 2023 opening game against Australia at Chepauk. “Jarvo 69”, breached the security and stepped onto the ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium before the first ball of the match was bowled.

He has been escorted out by security after several interactions with Indian players, including with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, all while being in full Indian gear.

Following the incident, the ICC has released a statement saying that ‘Jarvo 69’ has been banned from attending any further games at the World Cup.

“The safety and security of everyone involved in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is our priority. We will work with the venue to understand what happened and consider if any additional security measures are required to prevent it from happening again. The individual concerned has been banned from attending any further games at the event and the matter is in the hands of the Indian authorities,” ICC said in a statement.

Initially startled, the Indian team’s security officer quickly grasped the man and escorted him outside the venue even though Kohli wasn’t one bit amused.

Notably, Jarvo also interrupted the action between India and England in the second and fourth Test of the series back in 2021. This is the fourth time the Englishman, considered as a nuisance across all venues in the U.K., has managed to breach security in a match involving India.

Last year, he was charged with and found guilty of aggravated trespass after he collided with Jonny Bairstow on the ground during India’s fourth Test against England at the Kia Oval in London in 2021. Jarvo’s pitch-intrusion antics are posted on his YouTube channel, where he has more than 180,000 subscribers.

While Indian supporters are at their wits end to procure tickets, disruptors like Jarvo getting premium VIP passes should leave both BCCI and TNCA red-faced.

Following the first victory, India managed to move to the 5th spot in the ODI World Cup 2023 points table. India will play their next game of the tournament against Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
