Dilshan Madushanka suffered a Hamstring injury during the second ODI match of the Bangladesh tour on Friday and has been ruled out of the remaining tour. He will also be missing two matches of the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

The SLC statement said that an MRI scan confirmed that Madushanka had suffered a left hamstring injury and would return to action after his rehabilitation.

“We got the report on his injury only today [Sunday], and it shows a small tear,” Sri Lanka team manager Mahinda Halangoda said.

“It’s a new injury. We’re not yet sure how long it will take for him to recover, but he’ll have to be assessed again when he goes home by the medical team at the high-performance center. For now, we know he’s out of the ODI tomorrow for sure.”

During the second ODI match at Chattogram, Sri Lanka won the match to level the series 1-1 where Madushanka bowled only 6.4 overs and picked two wickets before walking out of the field due to injury.

Dilshan Madushanka joined the Mumbai Indians squad during the IPL 2024 auction where he was sold to the franchise for INR 4.60 crores.

He was one of the new players for the franchise who is set to join a fast bowling line-up that includes Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendorff, Gerald Coetzee, Akash Madhwal, Arjun Tendulkar, and Thusara.

Madushanka has bagged 41 wickets on 23 ODIs and picked 14 wickets in 14 T20Is. He made his test debut during the second test of the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka 2023.

On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee has been recovering from a groin injury and is being monitored by the MI medical team.

He made his last appearance in the test match on India’s tour of South Africa in 2023/24, where he developed Pelvic discomfort. He was ruled out of the second test match and was also unable to make an appearance in the SA20 tournament.

Currently, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are playing in the third ODI match on March 18 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
