SRH Retained and Released Players in IPL 2022: 2016 IPL trophy winner Sunrisers Hyderabad who finished at the bottom of the IPL 2021 Points table will seek to build a team to reappear strong enough to lift their second IPL trophy.

SRH had many internal problems during their IPL 2021 campaign where 2016 trophy winner David Warner has been replaced by Kane Williamson as the skipper owing to his bad form.

After IPL 2009 this is the first time Warner ended the IPL tournament without crossing 200 runs in total. Warner scored only 195 runs on playing 8 matches in IPL 2021 with a strike rate of 107.73 which is his IPL career-worst SR.

SRH may back David Warner( if they need) over his single bad season he passed through. But if SRH seeks for captain cum foreign batsman then Kane Williamson will be the only option for them.

Updates

  • Rashid Khan is unlikely to be retained by SRH as the Afghan spinner is not willing to be SRH’s second retained player ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. Notably, the difference between the two positions is INR 4 crore.
  • IPL 2021 retention will be live on Star Sports on November 30.
  • VVS Laxman has informed Sunrisers Hyderabad of his decision to quit as Mentor of the team.

David Warner vs Kane Williamson – score comparison

SRH Retained and Released Players 2022

Not like any other teams, SRH rely on their foreign players the most. If you analyze the IPL 2021 data in close apart from Manish Pandey(India), Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow are the only two players to score 200+ runs who were notably the foreign players.

In the all-rounder terms, no player other than Jason Holder(West Indies) has performed well. He picked 16 wickets on playing 8 matches and scored 85 runs with the bat.

In terms of the bowling unit, Rashid Khan is the only player to bag 10+(18) wickets in total in IPL 2021. Apart from the batting unit, SRH has doesn’t have strong batting or all-rounding players from India.

But if we consider the IPL 2020 data, Natarajan and Sandeep Sharma have done brilliant with the ball. Where Natarajan picked 16 wickets of playing 16 matches while Sandeep picks 14 wickets on playing 13 matches.

In IPL 2020, Saha too did well in terms of batting where he scored 214 runs on playing just 4 matches with an SR of 139.86.

This makes SRH to pick the second option of IPL 2022 retaining policy. As per the BCCI rule, a team is set to be allowed to keep up to three Indian and two foreign players with the total number of retentions not exceeding four.

As per the conditions, the team management can either retain three Indian players and one overseas player or two Indian players and two overseas players. As BCCI allows 4 retentions to IPL teams in IPL 2022 mega auction thus there’ll be no RTM card available.

IPL 2022 Retention Sunrisers Hyderabad

Kane Williamson will be the first option for SRH in their IPL 2022 players retention. If SRH decides to build a strong bowling unit with an Indian player then Natarajan will be the better option.
