The pacer Jasprit Bumrah is close to returning for cricketing action as he missed the initial games of Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
According to reports, Bumrah has been building his bowling workload in recent weeks at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is understood to be close to taking the final round of fitness tests.
If he gets the all-clear from the BCCI medical team, Bumrah will link up with MI and Play in the IPL. With India set to play a five-match test series against England after the conclusion of the IPL, Bumrah has been cautious and wants to ensure he is fit before returning to action.
However, it is confirmed that he will be missing Mumbai’s game against Lucknow Super Giants but is also doubtful for MI’s next game, at home against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 07.
Mumbai has played three games in IPL 2025 winning one and losing two and have handed debuts to the likes of Satanarayana Raju and Vignesh Puthur and Ashwani Kumar in Bumrah’s absence with Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya were the seam bowling options.

Bumrah has been part of the Indian Premier League 2013, and picking up 165 wickets in 133 matches over the years. The only IPL season he missed since he started playing was in 2023 due to back injury.
He suffered a back injury on the second day of the final games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy test in Sydney on January 04.
He was ruled out of India’s Champions Trophy campaign where the Men in Blues claimed their third title. Initially he was included in India’s provisional squad, has travelled to Bengaluru for fresh scans in early February, but continued to feel discomfort and was named in the final squad.
Mumbai Indians will be clashing with Lucknow Super Giants on April 04 at Ekana Cricket Stadium.
