IPL 2024 CSK Squad: The defending champions Chennai Super Kings crowned their 5th title by beating Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 Final and equals Mumbai Indians’ tally of 5 IPL titles.
Though Chennai Super Kings have gone through very tough phases in IPL history, they made strong and unbelievable comebacks under the guidance of their Captain – MS Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings who shined under the captaincy of MS Dhoni for more than a decade and a half will go through a rough situation under the tag of “Captaincy Change”. MS Dhoni who dedicated his whole IPL career to Chennai Super Kings captained the team since 2008 and led the team to win five IPL trophies.
Without any doubt, CSK are in the hunt for a new captain since the 2022 edition. Right before the start of the tournament(IPL 2022), MS Dhoni stepped down from his captaincy role while CSK named Jadeja as the new skipper.
Under Jadeja’s captaincy, CSK registered their first victory in their fifth match of the tournament which is against RCB. This forced Jadeja to handover the captaincy back to MS Dhoni. Chennai Super Kings only managed to win 4 games out of the 14 matches they played in the IPL 2022 season.
Following a dreadful outing in 2022, CSK made a strong comeback in the 2023 edition under MS Dhoni and went on to win the title. Though everything seems to be normal, MS Dhoni’s participation in the 2024 edition comes under the radar following his Knee Injury.
MS Dhoni has a successful Knee surgery and is expected to play in the 2024 edition. Apart from his participation, the answer to “who will be the next CSK captain” after MS Dhoni remains the hottest topic of the IPL community.
“Thala” MSD is expected to lead the team in IPL 2024 if he participates in the tournament. As it is a mini-auction, CSK might not make massive changes in the team.
IPL 2024 CSK Squad
IPL 2024 CSK Squad: BCCI planned to host the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on December 19 and set November 26 as the deadline for the teams to finalise their retention and released players list. Notably, this will be the first time an IPL auction is conducted overseas.
The majority of the teams will not release their core players as it is a mini-auction. As of the previous season, BCCI allowed franchises to use the “TRADE” option where teams can exchange players between them.

IPL 2024 Auction Rules
IPL 2024 CSK Squad: As BCCI decides to host a mini-auction for the 2024 season, franchises have the advantage of retaining the majority of their players compared to the mega auction.
- No franchise will be allowed to buy a player beyond their purse balance.
- Each team has to spend at least 75% of their total amount.
- The option of the Right to Match (RTM) card will not be available to franchises.
- The number of players in each team should not exceed 25 while each squad should have a minimum of 18 players.
- According to the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.
