Captains View

David Warner | SRH Skipper

We will bat first. (Reasons?) Because we haven’t done that yet (laughs). It’s a different surface to what was expected in Delhi. But it’s not going to change much through the course of the game. We are just looking at the attitude in tough situations. We just want to stay relaxed and come out with clear minds. It’s about experience for us, so we have two changes. Abhishek Sharma and Virat (Singh) miss out. Sandeep and Pandey are back.

MS Dhoni | CSK Skipper

We were looking to bowl first. Looks a bit tacky and the boys who practiced yesterday said there was quite a bit of dew. We prefer to chase if there is a chance of dew. Bowling with the wet ball or bowling in conditions where there is not much help is the area we would want to improve. We were slow in the first game but we picked up pace. Lungi and Moeen are back in place of Bravo and Tahir.

This duo on understanding the need for a healthy partnership makes a steady game. While CSK struggled to break the partnership. At the end of the 10 overs, SRH scored 69 runs for 1 wicket loss.

The duo added a massive 106 runs partnership for the next wicket. Ngidi in the 18th over stuns SRH by dismissing Warner and Manish Pandey for 57 and 61 runs respectively.

These wickets were not quite enough to restrict the SRH run flow. Williamson in the followed over scored 20 runs and Jadav with a boundary and a six off the last over drag SRH to score 171 runs for 3 wickets loss.

Chennai Super Kings(CSK) Batting

Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad gets into lead CSK to chase down the target of 172 runs. While Sandeep Sharma opens the bowling attack.

SRH needs to pick the early wickets of the openers to avoid a massive opening partnership. CSK’s dangerous opening duo is well known for their long stand on the field especially while in chasing.

As expected this duo starts to add quality runs in the powerplay which makes CSK to score 50 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the power play. With the duo’s aggressiveness, CSK scored 91 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the 10 overs.

SRH needs to pack some wickets in order to increase their winning percentage. Finally Rashid Khan at the end of the 13th over dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad for 75 runs and breaks the partnership.

Though CSK loses a couple of wickets to Rashid Khan in the 15th over in the form of Moeen Ali and Faf, CSK had a healthy run rate to chase down the target.

In the mid of 19th over CSK bags the victory with a boundary from Raina and backs to the top of the points table.

Man of the Match

  • Name: Ruturaj Gaikwad
  • Team: Chennai Super Kings
  • Role: Batsman
  • Stats: 75 runs of 44 balls

Means a lot (his highest IPL score). Little bit disappointed couldn’t finish it well. Think it was little bit two paced, little bit low bounce. Scoring big shots was difficult. It was all about how you hit gaps and hit over the fielders. Just planned who is the better bowler on this surface, who is not. One or two bowlers had a bit of an off day, cashed in on them. Just want to keep performing each and every match.
