“You can’t keep everyone happy,” Rohit Sharma on T20 World Cup squad selection

Rohit Sharma has admitted that it’s impossible to comfort everyone when it comes to Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma returned to form after his duck in the T20I series against Afghanistan, as he smashed a ton in the 3rd T20I match of Afghanistan’s India tour.

After India suffered early dismissals in the final T20I match, Rinku Singh joined Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to raise the score to take the team from 22/4 to 212/4.

India won the match in the third T20I after playing two super overs at Bengaluru stadium. While asked about the T20 World Cup combinations after the match, Rohit Sharma gave a blunt answer saying that it is not possible to keep everyone happy.

He said that the management is looking for 8-10 players to fill the squad for the ICC event.

“We have not finalized the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds. So we will make our combinations according to the conditions. In the West Indies, the conditions are slow, so we’ll have to pick our team accordingly.”

“As far as Rahul Dravid and I are concerned, we’ve tried to maintain clarity. We try to tell them why they’ve been selected or not been selected even after putting in performances,” said Rohit.

He also said that Players on the bench will ask why they aren’t playing, but he can’t have everyone satisfied and happy as only 11 players can play.

“You can’t keep everyone happy, that is what I’ve learned in my time as captain. You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy. The four players sitting on the bench also ask why they’re not playing.”

“I’ve learned that you can’t keep everyone happy, and the focus should be on the team’s goal,” Rohit explained.

The Afghanistan Series will be the last assignment for India before the ICC Men’s World Cup 2024. The player’s selection will depend on their performances in the upcoming Indian Premier League starting in March.
