T20 WC 2021: Oman Invites Mumbai for Limited-overs Series

Oman has invited Ranji Trophy giants Mumbai to play six games (three T20Is and three ODIs) in Muscat.

Mendis has written a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association, inviting them over to Muscat to give proper game time to Oman before they play the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

Oman Invites Mumbai for Limited Over series

Oman is also a co-host for the ICC T20 World Cup with the United Arab Emirates, which begins on October 17.

“On behalf of Oman Cricket, we would like to invite the Mumbai Cricket team to play matches against Oman’s national cricket team. As we understand that both teams are currently preparing for the upcoming season, it will be an excellent opportunity for the players to get some quality practice just before the commencement of the season,” states the letter written by Mendis, which is in possession of ANI.

Mumbai Cricket Association Confirms

“We [Mumbai Cricket Association] have received an invitation from Oman Cricket. We will have an internal meeting soon and a decision will be taken accordingly. The proposal includes playing three T20s and three 50-over games against the Oman national team.

“It’s a sort of preparation for them before the T20 World Cup. However, it’s good exposure for the Mumbai players too before the season,” said an official on Friday.

MCA Plans to purchase workload management Chipset

Meanwhile, the MCA is also evaluating whether to buy the chipsets to monitor the workload management of Mumbai’s players.

Each chipset is expected to cost Rs 1 lakh. Mumbai coach Amol Muzumdar has recommended the chipsets, said an MCA official.

A demonstration of how the chipsets will function was held on Thursday. Similar chipsets are used by the Indian and IPL teams.

As per the schedule, the Mumbai team will be departing for Muscat on August 19 and then they will quarantine themselves on August 20.

From August 21, Mumbai will be allowed to train. The three T20Is will be played on August 22, 24, and 26. After this, Oman and Mumbai will shift their focus to 50-over cricket.

The three ODIs will be played on August 29, 31, and September 2. Mumbai’s team will then be heading home on September 3.
