The Legendary pacer Wasim Akram has praised the current Indian team who would have won the Champions Trophy even if they played all their matches in Pakistan after the Men in Blues claimed their third Champions Trophy title.

India played all their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai as the side refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. Wasim Akram said India could have won the title anywhere in the world.

The legendary pacer also feels that India’s winning streak in the last two ICC events shows the depth that they have and the leadership.

“This Indian team would have won it anywhere in the world. Yes, there were a lot of talks, but once decided that India would play all of their matches in Dubai and had they played in Pakistan, they would have won there as well.”

“They won the 2024 T20 World Cup without losing a game, they went on to win the Champions Trophy without losing even one game which shows the depth in their cricket, that shows the leadership,” Akram said.

Wasim Akram praised the BCCI for defending Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir despite the indifferent results in the past few months.

The legendary pacer felt that sanity prevailed in the end despite the Border Gavskar Trophy loss and other poor results and that helped India win the title in end in Dubai.

“If you remember they lost to New Zealand 3-0 in Test series at home, lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy and lost the series in Sri Lanka so they were under pressure to remove the captain, the coach but sanity prevailed.”

“BCCI backed them, said this is our captain, this is our coach and now they are the champions of the champion,” said Akram.

India secured a four wicket victory against New Zealand after restricting Kiwis for 251 runs in the finals of the Champions Trophy at Dubai International Stadium.
