With the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma debated widely across the cricket fraternity, the duo has been named in the India squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
Shubman Gill has been named as the ODI captain, with Shreyas Iyer serving as deputy. The Men in Blues are set to play three ODIs and five T20Is in India’s tour of Australia 2025, which is set to begin in the latter half of the month.
Following their last international appearance at the Champions Trophy in February, where they played a crucial role in India’s winning campaign.
With Virat Kohli making a century against Pakistan and a valuable knock against Australia in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma went on to make a match-winning contribution in the finals against New Zealand.
After Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements in T20 and test formats, they are focusing exclusively on the limited overs cricket, amid the speculations over their longevity ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

After the completion of the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has been involved in rigourous training sessions making their preparations for their international return.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant who are recovering from respective injuries has been unavailable for the tour. Nitish Kumar Reddy will be replacing Pandya in the squad.
“He won’t be fit for the Australia series due to the injury he picked ahead of the final. He will undergo rehab at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and only then we’ll know,” chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, said.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODI series due to workload management and will be returning for T20I series.
The tour is set to begin with the ODI series which begins on October 19 before shifting to T20I series begininng on October 29.
