Indian top-order batter Shubman Gill who is well known for his anchoring innings across formats secured his first ODI half-century against England. Gill achieved this feat during the first ODI of the England tour of India 2025 at Nagpur.
Shubman Gill walked onto the pitch when India lost their both opening batters for just 19 runs while chasing 248 runs. While India was seen in a dangerous spot, Gill and Shreyas Iyer made a 94 runs stand and brought back the hosts into the game.
Notably, during the process, Shreyas Iyer scored his second fastest ODI half-century. Following Iyer’s dismissal, Axar Patel and Gill continued the momentum and drove India into a comfortable spot by scoring 206 runs for three wickets loss at the end of 30 overs.
After Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 59, Gill made a steady innings and went on to score his maiden half century against England. Gill achieved this feat in 60 deliveries and gave a hope of winning the game.

It is worth mentioning, Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain of the India squad for Champions Trophy 2025.
Shubman Gill has so far played 48 ODIs for India and scored 2403 runs at an average of 60.08 which includes a double century, six centuries and 14 half-centuries.
