Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma Centuries Seals India T20 Series Win Against South Africa

Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma hit unbeaten centuries to lead India to a 135-run thrashing of South Africa in Johannesburg and a 3-1 T20 series victory.

Samson struck 109 runs off 56 deliveries while Tilak Varma scored 120 runs off 47 deliveries in a solid stand of 210 runs for the second wicket as India scored 283 runs for a wicket.

It is the first time both have scored centuries in the same innings of a men’s T20 international between full member nations.

Tilak Varma had nine fours and 10 sixes after joining Samson at 73-1 in the sixth over, following the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma for 36 runs off 18 deliveries.

Tilak is the second Indian and only fifth batter to hit centuries in consecutive men’s T20 internationals. Wk-batter Samson was the first Indian to achieve the feat by smacking 107 in the opening T20 of this series.

In the fouth and final T20 at Wanderers, Samson hit six fours and nine sixes. His partnership of 210 along with Tilak Varma is the sixth highest in all men’s T20 internationals, the highest of the second wicket and highest for India.

India’s 283-1 is the second highest total in men’s T20 internationals, after making 297-6 against Bangladesh in october.

Meanwhile South Africa bowled out for 148 runs 18.2 overs in reply, with Arshdeep Singh finished innings with a returns of 3-20.

The Proteas men slumped to 10-4 in reply before Tristan Stubbs struck 43 off 29, but the proteas suffered a heavy defeat by runs.

Along with Arshdeep, Chakravarthy led the Indian bowling attack as the visitors restricted the hosts for 148 runs with one over remaining. India secured 135-runs victory over the proteas in the fourth match, Suryakumar Yadav-led India clinched a 3-1 series win.

Tilak Varma was named as the Player of the Match, While speaking at the post match conference, “Actually I wanted to tell one funny thing, last year when I played here I got out first ball. This innings was very crucial for the team and the series.”

“[on his plans for today] Just want to hold my shape and followed my basics as to what I did in the last game, I was calm. It’s an unbelievable feeling, I couldn’t express it right now, I never imagined, that too two 100s in South Africa in challenging conditions.”
