The Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has been impressed by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill for their solid knocks on the opening day of the Birmingham Test.
The duo’s knocks has helped the visitors to post 310 runs in the second test of the India’s tour of England 2025. After England decided to bowl first, India made three changes in the squad from Leeds.
Despite a small collapse, Gill anchered the innings scoring 114* runs forging a crucial unbroken 99-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to steady the innings by the end of day 01.
Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the innings while Chris Woakes opened the bowling attack. Despite the dismissals of KL Rahul and Karun Nair for 2 and 31 runs, Shubman Gill posted a century.
Meanwhile Jasiwal and Rishabh Pant lost their wickets for 87 and 25. However Jadeja joined Gill to forge a partnership where India scored 310 at stumps.
Chris Woakes picked two wickets while Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes and Shoaib Bashir bagged one wicket each.

After the end of the play, Yashasvi Jaiswal praised the captain for his incredible batting display.
“I think he has been amazing the way he has been batting. It’s just incredible to see him bat and as a captain also, he has been amazing and I think he is very clear in his head what he needs to do with the team and we are very confident in what we are going to do,” the opener said.
“We all are enjoying batting, and the idea is for the one who is set to take the game deep. We are all in the same mindset.”
England bowler Chris Woakes also admired Gill’s outstanding performance.
“It felt like we were close to getting him lbw where he got a little inside edge,” Woakes said.
“Other than those it felt like he was in control of pretty much everything. Credit to him. He played very well. It is a very good hundred and a big one for his team,” concluded Chris Woakes.
