Charith Asalanka’s solid knock has helped the side to secure a win in the first ODI match of the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2025.
He went on to slam a century, helping the side to post a formidable total of 244 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium. Apart his crucial knock, a clinical bowling performance has helped the side defend the target at Colombo.
Batting first, Pathum Nissanka and Nishan Madushka opened the innings while Taskin Ahmed opened the bowling attack.
However, the side went on to lose the openers cheaply, with Nissanka and Madushka got dismissed for duck and 6 respectively.
With the dismissal of Kamindu Mendis for a duck, Sri Lanka lost three wickets for 29 runs. However Asalanka joined Kusal Mendis to stabilise the innings, with Mendis scoring 45 runs.
However, Asalanka went on to score a century and continued to score 106 runs before being dismissed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
A magnificent milestone for our skipper, Charith Asalanka, who smashes his 5th ODI hundred!
But that’s not all – he’s now equalled a remarkable record, hitting 4️⃣ hundreds at RPICS Colombo! He joins an elite list alongside legends Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sanath… pic.twitter.com/UswODtNpXV

Taskin Ahmed went on to bag four wickets while Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged three wickets.
In the pursuit of chasing 245 run target, Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan opened the innings for Bangladesh while Asitha Fernando opened the bowling attack.
Despite Parvez Hossain Emon dismissal for 13 runs, Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Shanto forged a 71 run partnership for the second wicket.
However, Shanto’s dismissal has powered Bangladesh’s batting collapse. He scored 23 runs before being dismissed on a run out.
Hasaranga created havoc dismissing Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan for a duck and 62 in the same over.
However, Jaker Ali tried to make some resistance posting 51 runs off 64 deliveries and with his dismissal has powered the side’s batting collapse where they scored 167 runs in the innings.
Wanindu Hasaranga picked four wickets while Kamindu Mendis picked three wickets.
Charith Asalanka was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking at the post match conference, Asalanka said, “It was a difficult time to come in and bat. But was trying to do my basics right.”
“Got off to a good start and then tried to play to the situation. They were struggling with injuries but we didn’t have enough wickets in the end to take advantage. Our best fielding performance recently,” he concluded.
The second ODI match will be played on July 05 at R. Premadasa Stadium.
