India defeated England by an inning and 64 runs to enjoy a historic win in the fifth test at HPCA stadium, Dharamsala. The skipper who did not field in the ground on day 03 of the final test has complained of a stiff back.

Coming to the match, England won the toss and opted to bat where the visitors scored only 218 runs in their first innings.

Zak Crawley was the only half-centurion for England. Kuldeep Yadav and Ashwin created havoc in the batting line picking up 5 and 4 wickets respectively.

India had a great start as the top order was impressive producing 250-plus scores for the third wicket. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill posted a century each.

With Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan smashing a half-century each in the match, India was able to push the scores to 450+ runs in the first innings.

Shoaib Bashir’s efforts with a five-wicket haul were useless as India set up a huge score against England. Starting their second innings, England’s batters struggled with Ashwin‘s intense bowling attacks where he picked a five-wicket haul.

Finally, England was all out for 195 runs and lost the match by an innings and 64 runs. While speaking in the post-match conference, Rohit Sharma praised the young team’s efforts in winning the series.

“When you win a Test like this, everything has to fall into place. At some stage, people are gonna and people are gonna come and we know that.”

“These guys are maybe short of experience, they have played a lot of cricket and I can stand here and see that these guys responded pretty well under pressure. The credit goes to the entire team and it was pleasing to see.”

“When you win a series like this, we talk about scoring runs and 100s but it is important to take 20 wickets to win a Test. The way bowlers took responsibility was pleasing to see.”

“It was over a period of time that we had a conversation (with Kuldeep), he’s got a lot of potential and when the chips were down in the 1st innings, he bowled well and after his injury, he came back and worked at NCA and he is putting a lot of effort and the most pleasing thing was his batting.”

“He’s (talking about Jaiswal) got a long way to go, amazing to be in this position. When a guy’s got talent like that who can put pressure on the bowlers from the word go, there will be lots of challenges going forward. He is a tough guy and loves the challenges, clearly a superb series for him, and likes to score big,” he concluded.

Indian Players will be playing in the IPL before heading towards the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean in June.
