India secured victory in the fifth test of the England test series by an inning and 64 runs. Despite facing a defeat in the first test, the Indian team came back stronger to clinch victory in the series.

On this occasion, Rahul Dravid took a moment to praise the Indian side for winning the series. He also gave a special mention to Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men’s selection committee in the BCCI, and his team for identifying young talents.

Coming to the match, England won the toss and opted to bat where the visitors scored only 218 runs in their first innings.

Zak Crawley was the only half-centurion for England. Kuldeep Yadav and Ashwin created havoc in the batting line picking up 5 and 4 wickets respectively.

India had a great start as the top order was impressive producing 250-plus scores for the third wicket. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill posted a century each.

With Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan smashing a half-century each in the match, India was able to push the scores to 450+ runs in the first innings.

Shoaib Bashir’s efforts with a five-wicket haul were useless as India set up a huge score against England. Starting their second innings, England’s batters struggled with Ashwin‘s intense bowling attacks where he picked a five-wicket haul.

Finally, England was all out for 195 runs and lost the match. While speaking in a post-match interview Rahul Dravid said, “Proud of the team. To go behind in the first Test was disappointing but to bounce back was great.

“We have always found people to step up. In various situations, we have been put under pressure. We missed a few key players but we believe there is an incredible amount of talent in India.”

Terrific to see youngsters do well. Performances were all-round as went down our whole squad, that was the pleasing thing. I have the privilege of working with a lovely team, it’s not just about me. I am learning from them all the time.

Rohit has been fantastic to work with. He is a terrific leader. The guys gravitate towards him phenomenally, which is fantastic to see. Shout out to Ajit (Agarkar) and his team (selection panel) as well.

As a coach or captain, you don’t get to see a lot of the youngsters that come in. They picked the right ones and they have come here and performed. Not easily being a selector. Big pat on the back for Ajit and his team as well.

(One stand moment in the series) Great performances all through, hard to pick. Maybe I will say Ashwin coming back to the team after what he went through after 24 hours and wanting to come back and contribute to the team I think signifies what this team is about and the character of the team,” he concluded.

Kuldeep Yadav was named as the Player of the match while Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named as the Player of the series for his heroic deeds in the series.
