RCB vs CSK 2024 Highlights: Bengaluru Qualify for Playoffs After 6th Consecutive Win

RCB vs CSK 2024 Highlights: Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a 27-run thriller victory during the IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings on May 19 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Bengaluru registered their 6th consecutive win and became the fourth team to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a stunning comeback as they moved from the bottom of the points table to fourth position in the IPL 2024 points table. Yash Dhayal’s final over helped the side secure a 27-run difference victory in the match.

Faf du Plessis was named as the Player of the match. While speaking in the post-match conference, “What a night. Unbelievable and such a great atmosphere, such a pleasure to finish off the season with a win. Batting first, I think it was the hardest pitch I have ever played on.”

“Myself and Virat were talking about 140-150 after we came back from the rain break. The communication from the umpires was there was a lot of rain on the pitch, they wanted to push the game and that makes sense.”

“And when we came back my god, I was telling Mitch Santner it was like a day 5 pitch at Ranchi and to get 200 on that was unbelievable. In the last 6 games, the batters have batted with good intent and good strike-rate. We were slow earlier on and we wanted more intent and that was awesome.”

“We were defending 175, it got a bit close, at one stage, with MS there, I thought, oh dear, he has done it so many times. The way we bowled with the wet ball, we tried to change it. I wanted to give the Man of the Match to Yash Dayal. The way he bowled was unbelievable. For a man who’s fairly new, he deserves it.”

“[on what he told Dayal before the last over] Pace off is the best option and trust your skills and enjoy, this is what you trained for. The yorker did not work the 1st ball and he went back to pace off and it worked unbelievably well.”

“[on the crowd tonight [ It’s crazy, even when we weren’t winning the fans were here. We felt in the changeroom we felt it was something we had to get right. Coming here tonight, it was set up nicely, CSK v RCB, unbelievable atmosphere and we as a team will do a lap of honour to thank the crowd for the support.”

“It’s really important that we enjoy this, great 6 games in a row and the first goal is to get into the knockouts, enjoy this but get back to work tomorrow,” concluded du Plessis.

Coming to the match, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened the innings where they made a partnership score of 78 runs for the first wicket.

Kohli smashed 47 runs on 29 deliveries before being sent out by Santner while du Plessis smashed 54 runs on 39 deliveries before being dismissed on a runout.

After Kohli’s dismissal, Rajat Patidar scored 41 runs on 23 deliveries before walking to the dugout. After Tushar Deshpande dismissed Dinesh Karthik for 14 runs, Cameron and Maxwell’s 38* and 16 runs, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 218 runs in 20 overs.

In the pursuit of chasing the 219 target, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings where Rachin Ravindra scored 61 runs before being dismissed on a run out.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was sent out on a golden duck by Maxwell on the first ball of the over. With Daryl Mitchell sent out for 4 runs by Yash Dhayal, Rahane scored 33 runs before walking out to the dugout.

Ravindra Jadeja smashed 42 runs on 22 deliveries while Santner was sent out for 3 runs by Mohammed Siraj. With MS Dhoni’s cameo performance, CSK was set to move forward toward qualifying for playoffs.

But MS Dhoni‘s dismissal on the second ball of the final over, Chennai Super Kings scored 191 runs in 20 overs. Finally, CSK suffered a defeat in the match by a 27-run difference.
