Rachin Ravindra Biography: New Zealand Cricketer Rachin Ravindra lived up to the expectations of his father Ravi Krishnamoorthy who believed his son to play big-league cricket for the Black Caps.

Ravi Krishnamoorthy a Bangalore software architect migrated to New Zealand in the early 90s. An interesting cricketing connection lies in Rachin’s father’s friendship with former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath. They had cricketing experience in Bangalore before Ravi Krishnamoorthy relocated to New Zealand.

Young Rachin Ravindra shared his passion for cricket with Srinath during their time in India. There is an interesting fact about his name which his father revealed after his maiden century during his ODI debut.

He said that he was named after great Indian legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. “Those two (Rahul and Sachin) are two amazing players- two of the greatest cricketers of all time. I guess I’m embarking on my own journey, I’m my own man, so it’s awesome to take inspiration from those two,” told a New Zealand website.

Rachin Ravindra Childhood

Ravindra’s grandfather Balakrishna is a renowned educationist. Rachin’s father Ravi Krishnamurthy used to play in cricket clubs before settling in New Zealand in 1997.

Rachin was influenced by Sachin Tendulkar and started to play cricket at the age of 5 and travelled every year to play club cricket. Rachin Ravindra was 10 years old when he watched the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar batting at Chinnaswamy.

Domestic Career

In June 2018, Rachin was awarded a contract with Wellingon for  18-19 season. Rachin Ravindra made his first class debut during the match between New Zealand A and Pakistan A on October 30, 2018.

He made his List A debut during the match against Pakistan A vs New Zealand A at Tolerance Oval at October 21, 2018.

He made his T20 debut for Wellington against Otago on January 27, 2019. In November 2019, he batted for Wellington against Auckland in 2019-20 Ford Trophy, where he scored his first century in List A cricket. In March 2020, he scored his maiden century in first-class century.

In June 2020, Rachin was handed a Wellington Contract ahead of 2020-21 domestic cricket season. In November, he was named in the New Zealand A cricket team for practice matches against the touring West Indies team.

IPL Career

• Rachin Ravindra was brought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 1.80 Cr in the IPL 2024 Auction. He played 10 matches and scored 222 runs and picked two wickets for the franchise.
• Playing for CSK in 2025 season, he played 8 games and scored 191 runs. However, he was released by the franchise ahead of the 2026 auction.
• Joining KKR for IPL 2026 season for INR 2 crores, he did not play in any of the games in the season.

International Career

ODI career

• Rachin Ravindra made his ODI debut during the match against Sri Lanka just seven months before ODI World Cup 2023.
• He played in the series agianst Pakistan, England, Bangladesh before playing in the ODI World Cup.
• He then palyed in the series against Sri Lanka in December 2023.
• Rachin Returned to the ODI setup in the 2025 Champions Trophy where the side became runners after suffering a defeat against India in the finals.
• He was then part for New Zealand squad which played in the series against England and West Indies at home.

T20I career

• Rachin Ravindra made his T20I debut during New Zealand’s match against Bangladesh on September 01, 2021 at Mirpur.
• He was then part of New Zealand squad which played against Sri lanka, Pakistan, UAE and England.
• He played against Pakistan and Australia before playing in the T20 World Cup 2024. He was integral part of the T20I squad which played against Sri Lanka in 2024-25, and rest of the series New Zealand played in 2025 calendar year.
• He returned to squad for India series in January 2026, before featuring in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Test Career

• Rachin Ravindra made his Test debut against India on November 25, 2021, scoring 13 and 18 runs in the first test of the New Zealand tour of India.
• Rachin Ravindra was included in the New Zealand squad for the South Africa 2024 Test series where a total of 2 tests were scheduled to be played between February 4 to February 17.
  • In the 1st Test, Rachin Ravindra scored his maiden double century and was dismissed by Neil Brand for 240 runs in the 1st innings.
• He had a quite campaign in the test tours against Australia and Sri Lanka before smashing a solid 134 and 39* runs in the first test.
  • He smashed his half century in the first innings of the second test.
• After a quiet tour against England, he smashed a stunning 165* runs in the 2nd test against Zimbabwe.

• Rachin Ravindra made his maiden World Cup debut against England in ICC Men’s 2023 World Cup in India and scored a century alongside Devon Conway and also joined the list of highest partnership scores in World Cups.

ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023

• Rachin Ravindra made his World Cup debut in 2023 and made a century alongside his opening partner Devon Conway during their match against England. They stitched a 273-run partnership for the second wicket and became the fourth-highest partnership in the World Cup history.
• He scored a fifty during the match against Netherlands at Hyderabad Stadium where the side won by 99 runs.
• Ravindra scored only 9 runs during the World Cup match against Bangladesh at Chennai stadium where New Zealand won the match with 9 wickets.
• In New Zealand’s next match against Afghanistan, Rachin managed to score only 32 runs and bagged one wicket at Chepauk Stadium where New Zealand won by 149 runs.
• During the group stage match against Australia on October 28, 2023, he scored his second century and helped the side giving hope in chasing the 389 runs, but the side lost the match by 5 runs. The match had the highest aggregate totals of both teams in the World Cup with an accumulated score of 771 runs.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Despite having name in the T20 World Cup 2024, he played in three games where he scored 17 runs only. New Zealand got knocked out of the tournament in the group stage.

Rachin Ravindra was named in the New Zealand squad in 2026 T20 World Cup making an impressive campaign during the tournament.
