The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been struggling to keep wickets after batting first during the WPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Giants on February 27.

They lost five wickets for 78 runs in the 13th over of the match. Initially, RCB suffered a set back losing three wickets in the powerplay for 26 runs.

They lost the wickets of Danni Wyatt, Ellyse Perry and Smriti Mandhana for 25 runs within the end of the power play.

Deandra Dottin bagged the wicket of Danni Wyatt on a lbw for four runs while Ashleigh Gardner dismissed Ellyse Perry on a duck. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana was sent out by Tanuja Kanwar for 10 runs.

However, they managed to get back with a partnership from Raghavi Bist and Kanika Ahuja for the fourth wicket.

Raghvi scored 22 runs off 19 deliveries before being dismissed on a run out. In the next over, Tanuja Kanwar bagged the wicket of Kanika Ahuja for 33 runs.

However, Richa Ghosh and Georgia Wareham were trying the best to forge a solid partnership in their innings.

Speaking at the toss Gujarat Giants captain Ashleigh Gardner said, “We are going to bowl first. Chasing seems to be easier throughout this competition.”

“Hopefully we’ll be able to take early wickets and then be able to chase down the runs. We spoke about the powerplay, that’s probably the elephant in the room. We need to capitalize on that with the bat.”

“The bowlers have done a reasonable job. We haven’t had many runs to work with. (Vocal captain?) Take it easy, it’s about talking to individuals rather than as a whole group.”

“As a player, you have a lot on your plate. Results kind of take care of themselves. One change. Hema comes in for Simran.”

Meanwhile RCB captain Smriti Mandhana said, “We would have loved to chase as well. We’ve been really close in the last two matches while defending. Hopefully we can put up a good total. It’s very hard to lose close games.”

“As a captain, you’d want to lose close games than one-sided because you know that you are not that far away. A little bit of a roller-coaster ride in the last two games for us but all the girls are calm.”

“(Pressure while playing in front of the fans?) We have few new people in the team who have not experienced this sort of environment.”

“Having said that, fans are always our strength. Whenever they cheer RCB, that’s something which always puts us in a positive frame of mind. Prema comes back in for Ekta today.”
