Ravi Timbawala appointed as USA Chief Selector

The 34-year-old Ravi Timbawala has been appointed as USA chief selector after considering his age and his status as an active cricketer. He made his last appearance for the USA in 2017 and represented SoCal Lashings in the 2023 Minor League T20.

Micheal Voss served as chief selector for four years before being replaced by Timbawala.

Jamali turned out for the US in 2015 but has been active in the MiLC circuit as recently as 2023, representing the Dallas Mustangs.

USA Cricket has shocked their entire national selection committee ahead of the National T20 league which is set to commence on Thursday.

Timbawala will be assisted by Nasir Jamali, Ritesh Kadu, Barrington Bartley and Sunny Sohal. Niraj Patel, Amer Afzaluddin, Orlando Baker and Clayton Lambert have been forced to resign before the launch of T20 World Cup.

The outgoing selection panel came under the likes of Public anger through social media for the omission of players like Jayasuriya, Sami Aslam, Cameron Gannon, Brody Couch, and Jahmar Hamilton.

The USA-qualified players like Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Unmukt Chand, and Andries Gous and omitted players like Gannon and Hamilton by the previous selection committee are set to add to the selection for Timbawala.

USA fixtures in the upcoming World Cup will largely depend upon National T20 and the MiLCs to form a full-strength squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The ninth edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies.

This is the first time for the ICC event to be hosted in the USA and a record of 20 teams will be divided into four groups with a total of 55 matches to be played across the competition.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to begin on June 02 with the United States and Canada set to play in the first match of the campaign at Grand Prairie Stadium.
