The Blackcaps have suffered a major blow as star all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has suffered a facial injury, and his availability for the Chappell-Hadlee Twenty20 series opener against Australia remains uncertain.
It is found that the all-rounder crashed into the boundary fence at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui while attempting to take a catch during the fielding practice and suffered a cut to his face.
“Ravindra received a facial laceration and will continue to be monitored by the medical team having passed an initial concussion test at the ground,” said New Zealand team’s official handle.

The blackcaps provided an update, confirming them Rachin Ravindra had passed an initial concussion test at the ground and saying he would continue to be monitored ahead of Wednesday’s match which is due to start at 7.15 PM.
Speaking after the pre-match conference, captain Michael Bracewell said that Ravindra is being assessed at the moment.
“Hopefully it’s just a minor graze, and he’ll be out there tomorrow with us.”
This is Rachin Ravindra‘s second injury in 2025. Earlier this year ahead of the Champions Trophy, he was struck on the forehead while attempting a catch under the floodlights during a tri-series game against South Africa in Lahore which made him ruled him out of the rest of the tri-series as well as New Zealand’s opening Champions Trophy fixture against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Australia has also suffered a blow back with Glenn Maxwell ruled out due to injury in wrists during the nets session.
The T20I series of Australia tour of New Zealand 2025 begins on October 01 which will be played at Bay Oval in Mount Manganui with the second and third game scheduled at October 03 and 04.
