The former Parthiv Patel believed that Mohammed Shami’s impressive 3/25 spell in Mumbai will boost his confidence for the upcoming three-match ODI series on the England tour of India 2025 and Champions Trophy 2025.

Shami who returned to the national team after a lengthy layoff, has marked a stunning performance with a 3/25 spell in Mumbai on February 03, which helped India to dismantle England by 150 runs.

Despite Shami going wicketless in his first match back during the third T20I in Rajkot, he bounced back to pick three wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.

Speaking at the post match conference, Patel emphasised how this performance could reignite Shami’s rhythm in ODI cricket, which will be crucial given India’s 50-over tournament.

“He (Shami) got his first wickets after 444 days without international cricket. He came and didn’t have a good first-over, but you need a bit of luck, obviously.”

“To be out of international cricket for so long, it’s not easy, and especially when you’re coming in on a very flat wicket, where the opposition are going to go after you because you are chasing 247,” Parthiv Patel said.

“Good that Shami got a couple of wickets. Just to get a couple of wickets will give Shami that confidence for going into 50-over cricket,” he added.

Mohammed Shami replaced Arshdeep Singh in the playing 11, and the decision proved to be effective. His ability and aggressive approach intent played a crucial role in India’s dominant win.

Abhishek Sharma who smashed 135 runs off 54 deliveries highlights by a record breaking 37 ball century and Shami’s form remained as one of the positives for India.

Shami will be joining India ODI squad for the three-match series against England, starting February 06 in Nagpur.

The upcoming series will serve as a preparation for India’s combinations ahead of the Champions Trophy. With joining ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Shami will play a key role in the high stake tournament which is set to begin on February 19.

India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at Dubai International Stadium.
