The three matches are to be played in Hambantota and Colombo, ending on 26th August, four days ahead of the scheduled start of the Asia Cup. Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to play between August – September and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup 2023 will also be the first of its kind to be co-hosted by multiple countries. Four matches of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Pakistan while the remaining nine matches of the tournament will be played in Sri Lanka.

The series will lay a practice platform for both the teams as a preparation camp for the Asia Cup 2023.

“These three matches will provide Babar Azam’s side an opportunity to fine-tune their combinations ahead of the 50-over ACC Men’s Asia Cup,” said the PCB in a statement.

ACB Chairman Mr Mirwais Ashraf feels that Afghanistan will do well and put on a fine show during the series in preparation for the highly anticipated Men’s Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

“Our previous ODI assignment was a 2-1 series victory in our away tour to Bangladesh, which has boosted the team’s morale for the Pakistan Series. We are satisfied with our preparations for the Asia Cup as we have featured in multiple ODI commitments in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh recently, and playing Pakistan, in Sri Lanka, will help our squad for read the conditions and further prepare for the event,” Mirwais said in a statement on Monday.

Pakistan will then travel back to Multan where they will face Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023. Afghanistan too will travel to Lahore where they take on Bangladesh on September 3.

Afghanistan vs Pakistan 2023 Schedule:

  • 26 August – 3rd ODI, Colombo
