Hobart Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the remainder of the BBL 2025-26 due to a hamstring injury.
Ellis has missed the knockout games, Melbourne Stars, where the Hurricanes held on to win by three runs.
He traveled to Sydney hoping to play in the game but he has withdrawn from the squad just hours before the match with batter Charlie McDermott named as his replacement.
Ben McDermott will be leading Hobart Hurricanes’ in Nathan Ellis absence. “Hobart Hurricanes can confirm that skipper Nathan Ellis will miss the remainder of the BBL season and the BBL15 finals due to hamstring tightness,” said the club in a statement.
“Ellis, who missed the Knockout on Wednesday night, was aiming to return for the final two matches of the BBL finals but was unfortunately unable to overcome the injury.”

Nathan Ellis has been rested for the upcoming T20I series of Australia tour of Pakistan 2026, ahead of the marquee event.
On this occasion, his injury could be a concern for the Australia camp for the T20 World Cup 2026.
On the other hand, Chris Jordan’s participation in the Challenger against Sixers remains uncertain. He did not bowl or field against star having batted for one delivery at the end of the innings where it was suggested he may have aggravated a previous injury.
Hobart Hurricanes have confirmed their final squad which includes players like Tim Ward, Will Prestwidge and Matthew Wade.
Meanwhile, the team will also missing Jake Weatherald. The left-handed opener has been focusing on red-ball cricket and has opted out of the Big Bash League (BBL) finals to preparae for the Sheffield Shield season.
The winners of the Tonight’s challenger will progress to face Perth Scorchers in BBL15 fianls at Optus Stadium.
