Naruemol Chaiwai to lead Thailand in Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024

Naruemol Chaiwai has been named as the captain of Thailand’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024.

Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 will begin on April 25 with the final match scheduled to be played on May 7.

Ahead of the tournament start, the Thailand Cricket team announced their 15-member squad for the global event. Naruemol Chaiwai has been named as the captain of the team while T Putthawong will serve as her deputy for the tournament.

Naruemol Chaiwai was appointed as the captain of the Thailand Women’s cricket team on April 25, 2021 replacing Sornnarin Tippoch. Moreover, Naruemol was named the ICC Player of the Month for April 2023 and became the first Thai player to win this award.

Thailand will play their first game of the tournament against Sri Lanka on April 25 in Tolerance Oval.

The top six teams from the T20 World Cup in 2023 in South Africa – Australia, South Africa, England, India, New Zealand, and the West Indies – earned direct qualification for the 20-over showcase, while Bangladesh qualified as hosts and Pakistan by virtue of their position in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings.

The Global Qualifier has 10 teams: Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, UAE, USA, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.

Participating 10 teams were divided into two groups of five where Thailand was placed in Group A alongside Sri Lanka, Scotland, Uganda, and USA. All matches of the tournament will be played at two venues in Abu Dhabi – Tolerance Oval and Zayed Cricket Stadium.

A total of 20 matches will be played during the Group stage after which the top two teams from each Group will play the semi-finals. Both finalists will qualify for the main event. The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in Bangladesh this September.
