Mumbai Indians had a slow start as they scored only 33 runs in powerplay during the WPL 2025 match against UP Warriorz played on February 26 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
They also lost a wicket of Yastika Bhatia for a duck after opening with Hayley Matthews. Nat Sciver-Brunt joined Matthews for the side’s 142-run chase within the powerplay.
Earlier, UP Warriorz batted first and scored 142 runs in their innings.
Despite having a solid start, UP Warriorz’s batting lineup crumbled after MI bowlers excelled in their department. They bagged wickets at regular intervals to restrict for a decent total.
Grace Harris and Vrinda Dinesh were the only scorers for the side in the match. Batting first Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris opened for the side where the former was dismissed cheaply for 1 run.
However, UP Warriorz finished the powerplay strongly with 62 runs after Grace Harris and Vrinda Dinesh forged a partnership for the second wicket.
However, Amelia Kerr bagged the wicket for 45 runs in the 10th over to get a breakthrough for the side. Sanskriti dismissed Vrinda for 33 runs and Tahlia McGrath for a run.
Sanskriti Gupta picked the wickets of Vrinda Dinesh and Tahlia McGrath for 33 and 1 run. However Shweta Sehrawat and Uma Chetry made some contributions with 19 and 13 runs helping the side reach the total.
Nat Sciver-Brunt picked three wickets while Shabnim Ismail and Sanskriti Gupta bagged two wickets each. Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr bagged one wickets each to put UP Warrioz in tough spot.

Mumbai Indians has two wins out of three matches while UP Warriorz has two wins out of four matches in the ongoing season so far.
Mumbai and UP Warriorz who have met five times in the WPL, with MI having a 3-2 lead in the head to head battle. Both teams won one match each in the 2024.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl. Speaking at the toss, Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We are gonna bowl first. First six overs, bowlers are getting help. We have experienced bowlers bowling in the powerplay.”
“We want to give advantage to that. We are in a good frame of mind. We are talking about good things. We have one change. Jintimani is playing in place of Parunika. We added one more seamer as there’s a little bit of help for the seamers.”
Meanwhile UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma said, “We would have bowled as well. We batted first against DC. We’ll play with the same plan and mindset. We have a positive mindset. The entire team is playing well. We are looking forward to this match. Same XI.”
