Batting first, Mumbai scored only 35 runs for a wicket in the powerplay. They lost the wicket of Yastika Bhatia for 11 runs.
After Bhatia’s dismissal, Nat Sciver-Brunt joined Hayley Matthews aiming to balance the side, but the latter was sent out for 22 runs by Annabel Sutherland.
With Jonassen picking the wickets of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur for 18 and 22 runs Mumbai lost four wickets for 83 runs in the 14th over.
With their reduced run rate, Mumbai was further haunted by Minnu Mani, dismissing two batters in a over for 5 and 1. With their dismissals, Mumbai lost 6 wickets for 101 runs in the 17th over.
Jonassen and Mani went on to pick one more wicket each to restrict Mumbai for 123 runs in their innings.
Jess Jonassen was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking at the PoTM Presentation, Jonassen said, ” I think the skipper should be here having this conversation. I knew that getting the ball outside the powerplay, I can put some pressure.”
“It is nice, nice to get the wickets. The whole bowling unit did a fantastic job. She (Minnu Mani) was incredible, she’s an exceptionally talented bowler. I had some conversations with her.”
“The way she came after her first over was incredible. The way Meg and Shafali got through the powerplay was pretty cool, happy to put my feet up tonight.
