Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has warned Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir over Rohit Sharma’s woeful form in recent days and stated that ODI is the best format for the skipper to come in form.
Rohit has been struggling with his form in the red-ball cricket. However, he was expected to make a comeback in the first ODI match of the England tour of India 2025.
But his poor form continued even in the fifty-over format. He scored only 2 runs off seven balls in the opening match.
Speaking in the media, Sanjay said, “Yes, he will be disappointed with the way he got out. Clearly, there’s pressure. And, if he struggles to get runs in fifty-over cricket, and to get a big score, then you have a problem.”
“Because I maintain that it is the best format for any batter if you are batting in the top-3, to get runs and come back to form. And if we don’t get to see the best of Rohit Sharma in the Champions Trophy, then there’s a problem‘, Manjrekar said.

Meanwhile Rohit Sharma scored only 31 runs during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma has scored only 166 runs in his last 16 inning across formats.
India won the first ODI match by four wicket difference and will be looking to maintain the same momentum which is set to be played on February 09 at Barabati Stadium.
During the post match presentation, Rohit said there is nothing specific which the Indian side wants to try and achieve ahead of the Champions Trophy but would look to keep tickking all the boxes like they did against England in the Nagpur ODIs.
The Men in Blues will be heading to Dubai to play their Champions Trophy 2025 matches. India’s first match will be against Bangladesh on February 19 at National Stadium Karachi.
