India, being one of the most successful teams in the Champions Trophy’s history is once again set to feature in the summit clash of the tournament in the Champions Trophy 2025 edition.
Despite New Zealand having shown dominance over India in ICC tournaments, India has emerged as a Superpower in Cricket having defeated New Zealand twice in the 2023 ODI World Cup in the Group stage and semi-finals.
The Men in Blues, who refused to play the 2025 edition in host nation Pakistan due to security concerns, have produced clean performances to become the only team to emerge unbeaten and enter the finals.

On the past two occasions, New Zealand has stunned India by 4 wicket and 8 wicket win in the Champions Trophy clashes.
India in Champions Trophy – Since 1998
India is one of the most succesful teams in the tournament and has won the Champions Trophy twice in 2002 and 2013 and has made it to the four finals in the eight editions of the Champions Trophy.
India were the joint winners in the 2002 edition and defeated England in the finals of the 2013 season. They are considered as the favourites in the 2025 edition with the finals set to be played on March 09 at Dubai.
The high-voltage match will kickstart from 02:30 PM IST onwards with toss at half an hour before.
Champions Trophy 1998
Bangladesh was the hosts of the Inaugural edition of the tournament despite not being the part of the tournament. With nine teams participated, South Africa was the winners of the inaugural season.
India had played their pool stage match against Australia and secured a win and then got Knocked out after their six wicket defeat against West Indies in the semi finals.
Champions Trophy 2000
The KnockOut Trophy 2000 has been a memorable event for India where they beat Australia in the group stages and beat hosts South Africa in the semi finals.
However they become runners in the tournament after a four wicket defeat against New Zealand at Kenya.
Champions Trophy 2002
India was in stunning form during the tournament as they defeated England and Zimbabwe in the group stages, before facing South Africa in the semi-finals. They secured a win against Proteas to set up finals against Sri Lanka.
However, the finals was washed out in reserve day also due to which both teams were declared winners.
Champions Trophy 2004
The 2004 Edition was hosted by England where India played two pool stages against Kenya and Pakistan, where they won against former and lost the match against Men in Green and failed to qualify for the Play off and got eliminated in group stages.
Champions Trophy 2006
Being the hosts, India failed to qualify to the play offs and got knocked out of the tournament as they lost two out of three matches. They lost the matches against Australia and West Indies and their only win came against England.
Champions Trophy 2009
India got knocked out of the Competition as they secured only one win in the group stage. After they lost the match against Pakistan, one match ended in no result. However, the Men in Blues secured a win against West Indies.
Champions Trophy 2013
Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the Indian team bagged the second title after defeat South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan in the group stages before beating Sri Lanka to make it to the finals.
The finals was played against England, but was affected by the rain and the contest became a 20-over game. India scored 129 runs in the first innings before Ravindra Jadeja and the bowlers ensured a 5 run victory.
Champions Trophy 2017
The Men in Blues has an outstanding campaign by defeating Pakistan with a dominant performance, before got defeated by Sri Lanka. However they defeated South Africa in their final group stages.
They pounded Bangaldesh in the semi finals picking a 9 wicket victory. But they eventually failed in the finals and become runners as they got defeated by Pakistan by 180 run difference.
Champions Trophy 2025
India emerged as a superpower and showed dominance in the entire tournament. Having played their all matches in Dubai as they decided not to travel host nation Pakistan due to political tensions, they secure win against Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand.
They went on to defeat Australia in the Semifinals to secure the spot in the finals. They will be facing mighty Kiwis in the summit clash played on March 09.
